Bacteria and other microorganisms surround us everywhere: at home, at work, outdoors, even inside us. There is nothing wrong with that, they all carry their functions and are part of our planet’s ecosystem. Some are beneficial to a human body, but some are harmful. In ideal environments they make up for each other and create a balance but unfortunately sometimes our habitat is far from ideal. Our bodies usually fight harmful bacteria and viruses, our homes can’t. So we clean our homes. We mop floors, we vacuum carpet, and we clean behind furniture and appliances.

However, to clean an HVAC system you need a professional. A trained technician will hook up a powerful vacuum to your system and use various brushes and whips to clean inside the air ducts while they are under negative pressure. And now comes an important question: Do I need my HVAC system sanitation?

We generally recommend HVAC sanitation to those homes that have pets. We love our pets, but they can bring bacteria and other microorganisms from the outside. Also, HVAC systems that are not used very often may develop a buildup of various microorganisms inside and they can multiply pretty fast if not taken care of.

The process of sanitation is pretty straight forward. After an air duct cleaning is complete, a technician will use a ULV (ultra low volume) fogger to drive the mist of an antibacterial and antimicrobial solution into your duct system through air vents and other openings in the main duct. This will eliminate any possible bacterial buildup and create a very thin micro film inside of an air duct that will prevent new microorganisms from settling.
